NEW ORLEANS, THE NATIONAL SHOW (NCTA) and KIRKLAND, Wash. (3rd May 2004) -- Digeo, Inc., the leading provider of media center software and services, today announced that it has licensed the Osmosys OpenCableTM Application Platform (OCAP) technology for integration into the MoxiTM Media Center. This alliance puts Digeo one step closer to achieving its goal of providing cable operators with the most powerful platform available for running third-party OCAP applications. The first OCAP applications for the Moxi Media Center are currently scheduled for release in early 2005.
"Digeo continues to make significant progress with our OCAP
implementation. Bringing the industry-standard OCAP solution from Osmosys to our Moxi platform will allow developers of advanced services for set-top boxes to build applications once for deployment on a variety of set top boxes," said Jim Billmaier, Chief Executive Officer of Digeo. "The Moxi Media Center, along with OCAP, will support a wide range of applications for the cable industry and should generate additional value for cable operators as third parties create more new applications."
The initial release of Digeo's Moxi Media Center system includes the full integration of a Linux OS, middleware, and a comprehensive set of applications. Moving forward, Digeo's customers will require the platform to accommodate a wide range of additional applications and services, not all of which will necessarily come from Digeo or its partners. Digeo's Moxi Media Center platform is a robust, high performance system
making it an optimal OCAP platform. With a powerful Linux infrastructure at its core, a 733 MHz x86 processor, and 128-256 MB RAM, the Moxi Media Center has the capability to run a broad set of applications as well as headroom to support those developed in the future.
Digeo selected Osmosys for its technical excellence and pedigree in the MHP Open Standards Middleware sector. The DVB-MHP specification makes up 90% of the underlying OCAP technology. Osmosys MHP STB and CE enabled products are already deployed across Europe, most notably in Finland, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Denmark and even further afield in Singapore. Years of lab, and 'in the field' debugging plus live market deployments has allowed Osmosys to engineer a very efficient and robust middleware stack; something that is
required in today's middleware-driven iTV products.
"The US cable industry established the OCAP standard to promote wider development of interactive digital content and services," said Ronald Wing Chief Executive Officer of Osmosys. "By licensing Osmosys' OCAP technology for
the Moxi platform, Digeo can ensure that as the middleware evolves, Digeo can continue to provide their cable customers with a strong iTV solution. Moxi with Osmosys will remain at the forefront of the open standards movement for cable."
